- "The throne does not matter. It is for the sake of this man himself that I will continue to wield my sword."
- ― Daryun's thoughts about Arslan in The Heroic Legend of Arslan (anime), "A Knight's Loyalty"
Daryun was a Marzbān of Pars and one of the first members of Camp of Arslan that fought against the Lusitanian invasion. He later became the Erān of Pars, after Arslan's relieving Kishward from his duty as Erān.
History[]
In the days before his ascension to the rank of Marzbān, Daryun traveled to the far East, where he had a romantic encounter with the princess of Serica. However, she left him shortly afterwards.[1]
In the course of the year 320 of the Pars Era, Daryun had become a fearsome general of 10,000 Parsian knights; a Marzbān. Known as the Mardān fu Mardān, "Warrior among Warriors," he was revered as the greatest fighter of all of Pars. Although his friend Narsus was banned from the court, Daryun was allowed to stay and perform his duties as Marzbān. However, this was not to last long, and in October of that same year, the eve before the Battle of Atropatene, he voiced his opinions to King Andragoras regarding a retreat due to a presumed "trap" by the Lusitanians and was subsequently demoted to the rank of knight of the general cavalry. Shortly after, Daryun was taken outside of the royal tent by his uncle Vahriz, who then held the highest military position, and he asked Daryun to swear his loyalty to Crown Prince Arslan, the son of the king, personally and Daryun complied.[2]
Falling into the traps of the Lusitanians the following morning, the Parsians suffered a devastating defeat; Daryun's uncle was killed by the Lusitanian Guest General Silvermask and King Andragoras was captured.[2] Following the loyalty he had sworn the night before, Daryun looked for Prince Arslan, and together they fled to Mount Bashur.[2]
Etymology[]
Daryun is a variant of the Persian name Daryush, which comes from Old Persian Dārayauš and means "possessing goodness".
Other names[]
In some translations, his name is rendered as Darün or Dariun.[3]
Distinguished as the greatest fighter of all of Pars, he was widely known as Mardān fu Mardān, P "Warrior among Warriors."
Sher Senani ("Ferocious Tiger General") is an honorary name given by Sindhurans after the fight against Bahadur. It is a combination of P sher and S senani.
