Elam (エラム Eramu? ) is one of the main characters of the novel series The Heroic Legend of Arslan. He is Narsus' Attendant and a member of the Camp of Arslan against Lusitanian invasion.
Appearance[]
Elam is a boy who appears to be around the same age as Arslan. He is described as a boy with black hair. When he becomes17, he gets taller than average men, but a bit shorter than Narsus. He is a good looking young man and when he walks the city incognito with Arslan, girls will look back at them.
Personality[]
Cunning in his own way, he acts as spy to gather useful information through various disguises. He is attentive and careful and he's fairly skilled with both a sword and a bow. He is also good at cooking, as he has been praised for his culinary skills repeatedly by Narsus, Daryun and Arslan. He is very loyal. He is very proud but also sensitive about his position as a servant.
He is polite towards his teammates (especially Arslan) and works well with others. He can be a bit immature, as shown when he argues with Alfarīd over whose food Narsus likes better.
History[]
He and his parents were liberated by Narsus from slavery. Afterwards, following Elam's parents' will, he continued to serve Narsus as an attendant rather than a slave. He lived with Narsus who treated him like his own son, he was disciplined and taught by Narsus such as spanking him or scolding him.
In The Story Beyond Anime[]
After he fought for retaking the Kingdom with Arslan and others, he continued to serve Arslan as the commander of the royal guard. However, when the closest of Arslan's companion gathers, he still willingly served them as attendants. As he himself had been a quite skilled attendant, he sometimes showed strict attitude toward court ladies.
He often accompanied Arslan's visit incognito in the city.
He once visited Turk on duty with Gieve and Jaswant. Later, he accompanied Arslan's expeditionary force and traveled through Turan, Turk, and Sindhura.
In the Court, Elam met Aisha, who once served Tahamine in Badakhshan and came to the capital city with Isfan. Elam often scolded her as she always made a blunder.
He also accompanied the one toward Misr, but there he lost one of his most important person, Narsus.
Only less than 5 months later, he lost most of his companions and also his only King in the war to defeat Zahhak. Arslan gave him the great task of keeping Roknabad and to find a person who can drag out the sword which is the sign that the person is capable of inherit the will of the king and has the right to succeed the throne.
He moved to Shindhura with Gieve and Farangis as Arslan wished, and lived with other immigrants among which are Nasrin and Ayyar. He looked after Ayyar and educated him with others as if he is his real son. Elam got Married with Aisha in Pars era 330, but they never got their own child. Unfortunately, Ayyar wasn't the successor of the throne, so Elam kept searching for the person, and during which, he often took part in expedition force of Sindhura with Gieve. At the age of 68, when all the others who rememberd Arslan had passed away, he finally found the successor of the throne, who is Rostam, son of Ayyar. When he understood that his mission was completed, Arslan and all the other members of the King's 16 generals arrived in a cavalry, and Elam willingly accompanied their departure.[2]
Trivia[]
Elam shares his name with the historical Kingdom and Empire that preceded the Persians. Southern Iran was known as the territory of Elam from the 30th century BCE to the Persian conquest in 540 BCE. Afterwards a province in Southwestern Iran of the core territories of former Elam bore the name as well.
