The Road to Peshawar (ペシャワールへの道 Peshawāru e no Michi? ) is the 11th episode of the Arslan Senki Anime series.
Summary[]
On their way to the stronghold at Peshawar, Arslan's party is pursued by a force led by Xandes, Kharlan's son who seeks to avenge his father and they are forced to split up.
Synopsis[]
Marzban Sam, one of the two commanders of the besieged Ecbatana, wounded, wonders why the Lusitanians kept him alive. He is visited by Lord Silvermask, who asks Sam to serve him. Sam refuses, stating that he will only serve and kneel before the King of Pars, to which Lord Silvermask reveals his true identity to a horrified Sam, who thought he had died in the fire 16 years ago. Lord Silvermask then leaves, but not before asking Sam to think before giving an answer to his offer.
In the palace, Prince Guiscard learns that the priests are still hunting heathens and orders to stop them by any means necessary. This leads to a dispute between Guiscard and Inquisitor Bodin as the latter constantly launches hunts, even at the risk of an uprising. However, his qualms are brushed aside by the Archpriest. Meanwhile, the Temple Knights, who report directly to the Archpriest, arrive in Ecbatana.
After having a flashback of his childhood and the scarring of his face, and threatening a female servant, Hilmes later meets with Xandes, son of the late Kharlan, who tells him he will bring him the head of Arslan and Daryun.
Arslan's party is ambushed, and Daryun and Farangis decide to stay at the rear and hold of the Lusitanian pursuers, and separate from Arslan, Gieve, Elam, and Narsus, who leave. Daryun and Farangis fight off the Lusitanian pursuers, until Xandes shows up. He charges himself towards Daryun, after pushing Farangis out of the way. Xandes dominates the battle against Daryun but his horse is killed with an arrow by Farangis. Daryun counter-attacks and appears to be about to kill Xandes, but ultimately chooses against this, to which Farangis comments he was "too soft". Daryun and Farangis then flee to the east to catch up with the rest of the group.
In the meantime, while trying to escape from the Lusitanian soldiers, Elam's horse is struck down by an arrow. He begs the others to escape but Arslan comes to his rescue, killing several Lusitanian soldiers, however, he is also surrounded. They are saved by Gieve, who launches his gold pieces to distract the Lusitanian soldiers. Arslan and his party flee to a cliff and disappear. As they appear to have jumped in the river below, the Lusitanian Commander orders his army to follow them downstream. However, the are revealed to be hiding behind a small bush, underneath the cliff. Gieve then kills a suprised Lusitanian Commander with a throwing knife aimed at his head.
Elam feels guilty that Arslan had to save him when it should have been the other way around, however Arslan states when it comes to friends it doesn't matter, much to the surprise of Elam and Gieve, especially the latter, who finds it strange that a member of royalty would do such a thing. However, upon learning more about Arslan's childhood, he begins to understand why he is so different from the other nobles. The group then continue their journey towards Peshawar.
