The Knight in Black (黒衣の騎士, Kokui no Kishi^? ) is the 3^rd episode of the Arslan Senki Anime series. This episode corresponds to Chapter 3 and Chapter 4 of Hiromu Arakawa's manga.

Summary

Arslan is rescued by his loyal servant Daryun and they must run away from the Lusitanian forces, led by the mysterious General Silver Mask, who ambush and capture his father personally.

Synopsis

As Arslan is about to being killed by Kharlan and his Lusitanian allies, Daryun breaks through the Lusitanian ranks and attack the traitorous Marzban. While they both fight, Kharlan refuses to explains the reason for his treachery, and he eventually fled back, leaving Daryun to go helping Arslan.

At the battlefield, Andragoras is observing the effects of his decision, and is informed of the death of some of his Generals and is advice by Vahriz to retreat to Ecbatana. Andragoras is outrage by the advice, but decide to follow it after Vahriz begin to mention the fate of Tahamine in case of defeat. However, Kharlan's men, loyal to their General, assassinate the messenger, preventing the retreat order to be pass upon the troops, and creating confusion and rumors that the King cowardly fled the Battle. The news enrage Marzban Shapur, who shows his anger before his men but Marzban Kubard ​show even more disrespect for his King, stating that a leader who abandons his duty can't be followed, and tells Shapur to flee; a suggestion that enrages Shapur and makes him regain his lost confidence.

An advance of the Lusitanian Army interrupted their conversation and force them to engage the enemy. In the meantime, Andragoras escapes the field along with Vahriz and a part of his troops but fall into a ambush on the road and the last soldiers protecting Andragoras are defeated and himself is injured along with Vahriz. The man commanding the Lusitanians ambush unit comes forward them, wearing a silver mask, and express his approval of Kharlan's action to the shocked King and Erān. Seeing a opportunity to strike Silver Mask, Vahriz made a daring attack against him and manage to slay several Lusitanian soldiers but one sword strike of the Silver Mask is reasonable to kill the Uncle of Daryun. Silver Mask then proclaims he will be able to have revenge from Andragoras, a revenge he wait for 16 years.
