Gieve (ギーヴ Gīvu? ) was a traveling musician, womanizer and skilled bowman and swordsman. He joined the Camp of Arslan out of his infatuation with Farangis, but later shew true sympathy for the young prince and was curious about what kind of kingdom he would make.

Appearance[]

Anime[]

Gieve is constantly seen as an individual throughout the series with very dark purple hair and sharp eyes which seem to change color depending on the lighting. A cloth like material is wrapped around his head for most of the time. His lips are constantly pulled upwards into a smile, though his expression is quick to change upon his emotion, especially when it comes to extreme annoyance.

OVA Series[]

In the OVA, Gieve has long light red hair and light blue eyes.

Novel Series[]

His hair is deep red purple and his eyes are navy blue. He has a tall, slender body and delicate beauty. He wears a hat and a coat both of which have embroidery.

Personality[]

Gieve is a proud ladies' man. He believes himself to be a gifted poet and an irresistible individual, which is supported by the swooning of most women who encounter him. Gieve refuses to follow any noble, believing them to be all greedy tyrants who do not care about their people until he meets Arslan, who he finds different from the bunch. Though he shows indifference to situations that do not involve his own well-being and is merciless when it comes to encountering his enemies, Gieve also has a much softer side to himself as shown in several circumstances. He has also been revealed later on throughout the series to be a considerate man who will throw away what is important for him if it means saving the well-being of those he cares for. An example of this is when he threw his gold at enemy soldiers to distract them, so he could get to Arslan in time. Gieve is also shown to have a keen eye and a sharp mind. During their stay at Kashan Fortress, Daryun, Narsus and Gieve were discussing their opinions on Lord Hodir, their host. During the conversation, Gieve noticed a shadow on the balcony, and stealthily readied his sword to confront the intruder and so catch him by surprise- who turned out to be Arslan. Likewise, Gieve was alert and perceptive enough to be able to detect the presence of the sorcerous infiltrators to Peshawar Fortress, and skilled enough to fend off their unorthodox attacks. Gifted with a silver tongue, Gieve is able to talk his way out of most sticky situations. He also gets very drunk easily as shown in the anime.

Skill[]

Gieve is one of the best archers in Pars. He regards himself and is acknowledged by Merlane as being second only to Farangis. Gieve is also a highly skilled swordsman. Despite his hatred for him, Prince Hilmes acknowledges that Gieve is a tremendous fighter. Each time they have met, Gieve has always held his own and escaped unscathed. Additionally, he fought Isfan, Shapur's younger brother, to a standstill, and outright defeated Jaswant. He prefers to fight unarmoured, relying instead on deception, speed and evasion to protect himself. When Hilmes remarks that Gieve is as slippery a fighter as Narsus, Gieve retorts that he is much more so. When facing opposing swordsmen, Gieve typically enjoys the speed advantage, though he can caught off guard by similarly nimble and dexterous opponents, like Isfan. Unexpected tactics, such as the incorporation of unarmed physical strikes into one's swordplay, can also take him by surprise, as demonstrated during his fight with Jaswant. He also shows formidable skills in espionage and assassination, as he is often tasked with stealth mission and those requiring great secrecy (Narsus tasked him of finding the sword of the great Hero King in preparation of proving the right of ascendancy to the throne). Aside from these, his eloquence allows him to outwit his enemies and have his way with any woman he desires (except those from Arslan's Camp).

He is also a highly skilled oud player and is able to play any instrument.

Relationships[]

Arslan[]

He joined his group to win Farangis. Over time he started finding Arslan's strange personality interesting and began to be curious about his future as king.

On occasions where women show adoration or admiration towards Arslan, he usually monologues his impression in the form of a jest - speaking of Arslan as someone covertly good at handling women.

Farangis[]

He is very fond of Farangis, stating that she is beautiful and the reason why he joins Arslan's team in the first place. However, his love for her is not reciprocated as she is heartily not interested in him in romantic way. Despite this, he is still overprotective of her as shown when Rajendra tries to offer Farangis a drink and Gieve interrupts.
